Saints down Oakville 12-10 in final regular season home contest

ST. CATHARINES, Ont - The St. Catharines Saints ended their home regular season with a 12-10 victory over the Oakville Titans. With the victory the Saints improve to 13-1 with two regular season road contests remaining versus Norwood and Six Nations.

St. Catharines jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening eight minutes and led 5-2 after one period. Both teams would add three goals in the second period with the Saints leading 8-5 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Saints would extend their lead to 11-4 with 10 minutes left in regulation. Oakville would stage a comeback adding five of the next six goals but would fall short dropping their record to 3-10 on the season.

Leading the Saints offense was veteran Dylan Llord and rookie Chris Attwood who both finished with seven-point nights adding two goals and five assists each. Captain Brad Favero contributed with the natural hat trick while adding one assist. Chris Janese added two goals and two assists while Shawn Wilkens (1G, 2A) and callup Trevor Hines (1G, 2A) both chipped in with three points each. Jordie Daradick rounded out the Saints scoring adding a single marker.

In goal, Saints starter Scotty Komer recorded 38 saves for the  victory improving his record to 5-1. Oakville's Mike Cregan added 20 saves and Craig Wende collected 19 saves in the loss.

St. Catharines closes out the regular season on the road versus the Norwood James Gang (Sat, Jun 29th) and Six Nations Rivermen (Sun, July 7th). The Saints will open their 2013 OLA Sr. B Playoffs on July 19th at the Bill Burgoyne Arena with time and opponent TBA.

Saints clinch first place with 10-7 victory over Owen Sound

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints clinched first place overall Friday night at home as they defeated the Owen Sound North Stars by the score of 10-7. With the victory the Saints improve their record to 12-1 with three regular season games remaining.

The Saints trailed 3-1 early on before answering with five straight goals to take a 6-3 lead midway through the second period. Owen Sound would cut the lead to two, 6-4, before St. Catharines closed out the period with three of the next four goals leading 9-5 after 40 minutes.

Leading the St. Catharines offense was the duo of Dylan Llord and Chris Attwood. Llord led all scorers with a game-high six points adding two goals and four assists. Attwood contributed with a goal and four helpers. Chris Janese (2G, 1A) and Jordie Daradick (1G, 2A) both added three points each. Brad Favero (1G, 1A), Jat Thorimbert (1G, 1A), Jason Henhawk (1G, 1A) and Shawn Wilkens (2A) all chipped in with two points each while Mike Attwood rounded out the Saints scoring with a single goal.

Owen Sound was led by Tyler Gibbons who added two goals and two assists. Travis Gibbons contributed with two goals and one assist. Rounding out the North Stars scoring were Mike MacLeod (1G, 1A), Jayme Szabolcs (1G, 1A) and Garret Kerr (1G).

In goal, Saints starter Jake Henhawk registered his sixth victory of the season. North Stars starter Zach Bowen suffered the loss.

The Saints next action is Friday, June 28th at 8pm when they host the Oakville Titans at Bill Burgoyne Arena. They close out the regular season on the road versus the Norwood James Gang (Sat, Jun 29th) and Six Nations Rivermen (Sun, July 7th).

Saints defeat Oakville 13-5 on the road

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints continued their winning ways Sunday night on the road as they defeated the Oakville Titans by the score of 13-5 at Glen Abbey Arena. With the victory, the Saints improve to 11-1.

St. Catharines led 4-1 after 20 minutes and 10-4 after two periods. Early in the third period the Saints would add two more goals to take a commanding 12-4 lead on route to the eight goal victory.

Leading the Saints offense was captain Brad Favero who had a seven-point night registering two goals and five assists. Caleb Wiles and Dylan Llord both recorded six points each. Wiles finished with four goals and two assists while Llord added one goal and five helpers. Chris Janese contributed with the natural hat trick with Andrew Potter (1G, 2A), Jason Henhawk (1G, 1A) and Colin Boucher (1G) rounding out the Saints scoring.

In goal, Saints starter Scotty Komer recorded his fifth victory of the season after registering 34 saves.

Potter's eight -point performance leads Saints past Sarnia 14-7

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints improved to 10-1 on the season as they defeated the Sarnia Beavers by the score of 14-7 at Bill Burgoyne Arena Friday night.

St. Catharines opened the game with four goals in the first five minutes to take an early 4-0 lead. They added three more in the first period and led 7-2 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Sarnia would answer with three of the next four goals cutting the Saints lead to three, 8-5, with 10 minutes left in the period. St. Catharines offense would answer back adding three straight to take an 11-5 lead after two periods.

The Beavers would add two goals to open the third period making it 11-7 in favour of St. Catharines. The Saints would close out the period with three more as they doubled up Sarnia 14-7.

Leading the Saints offense was Andrew Potter who had an eight-point performance adding five goals and three helpers. Dylan Llord contributed with five points adding two goals and three assists. Rookie Chris Attwood also had the natural hat trick finishing with three goals and one assist. Steve Priolo (2G, 1a), Mitch Dumont (1G, 2A) and Jason Henhawk (3A) all chipped in with three points each. Rounding out the Saints scoring were Jake McCready who added a single goal and Brad Favero, Seth Hill and Zac Reid who all added two assists each in the victory.

Sarnia was led by Jim Purves who registered three goals and two assists for the five-point game. Colin McDowell (2G), Michael Fleming (1G, 2A) and Drew Davey (1G, 1A) rounded out the Beavers scoring.

In goal, St. Catharines starter Jake Henhawk registered 38 saves for the victory. Sarnia starting goaltender Grant Crawley got the early exit allowing seven goals on 17 shots in the opening period. Backup Justin Matthews registered 30 saves on 37 shots in the final two periods.

The Saints next action is Sunday, June 16th at 7pm when they take on the Oakville Titans at Glen Abbey Arena.

CLA Board of Directors Official Statement


The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) Box Sector, comprised of representatives from all Member Associations and Associate Member Associations and the CLA Board of Directors, which is comprised of a director from each Member Association and the CLA Executive, convened over the past two days at the Semi-Annual General Meeting (SAGM) to discuss concerns made by some members about the safety of CSA approved masks used in the Junior and  Senior divisions. After hearing the positions and concerns of all Member Associations and Associate Member Associations, an amendment to CLA Policy 12.4.2 has been passed.


Effective immediately, CLA Policy 12.4.2 now states:

12.4.2. For Box and Men's Field Lacrosse, all players are required to wear a helmet which must meet either of the following standards:

12.4.2.2. A Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved for Ice Hockey helmet with the appropriate CSA approved facemask for lacrosse provided that:

a. For the 2013 season, players in the senior age category, defined as “over 21” in CLA Policy 18.2 may use the non-CSA approved facemask that was approved for use in 2012;

b. Only players of senior age may use a non-CSA approved facemask that was approved for use in 2012. Younger players who play on senior teams must use CSA approved facemasks;

c. Should a player use a non-CSA approved facemask that was approved for use in 2012, the player shall do so at his/her own risk and knowing that the CLA recommends that only CSA approved facemasks be used.

With the amendment to the policy, the CLA is committing to the players of the Canadian lacrosse community an action plan moving forward. Information outlining the details of the action plan can be found here.

The CLA’s highest priority is player safety. We have listened to the concerns, addressed them, and we will continue to do so.

Saints defeat Norwood 8-7 to improve to 7-0

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints improved to a perfect 7-0 Friday night as they held on to defeat the Norwood James Gang by the score of 8-7 at Bill Burgoyne Arena.

Norwood led 2-0 after 20 minutes with goals from Mike Swift and Chad Evans.

In the second period, St. Catharines scored four straight goals in the opening five minutes and led 6-3 at the end of two periods.

The Saints Dylan Llord would put his team up 7-3 one and a half minutes into the third period before the James Gang answered with three straight making it a one goal game 7-6 with just over six minute remaining.

Saints Andrew Potter would beat Norwood starter Cole Murray with 5:21 left in regulation to make it 8-6. Norwood closed out the scoring with a goal from Chad Evans, for the natural hat trick, with less than two minutes left to make the final 8-7.

St. Catharines was led by Dylan Llord who finished with a goal and four assists. Potter (3G, 1A) and Corey Fowler (1G, 3A) both added four points each. Jay Thorimbert contributed with a goal and two assists while Brad Favero and Colin Boucher both added single goals.

Leading James Gang was Zac McIlmoyle who assisted on five of their seven goals. Chad Evans contributed with three goals and one assist. Also scoring were Mike Swift, Matt Evans, Josh Wasson-McQuigge and Kyle Clancy who all added single goals.

In goal, Saints starter Scott Komer picked up the victory with Norwood's Cole Murray suffering the loss.
