Presidents Cup Champions announce 2014 Coaching Staff


ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints announce 2014 coaching staff.
Head Coach Jeff Dowling and Assistant Coach/Offense Matt Attwood both return for their second season after leading the Saints to the 2013 Senior B President's Cup title. Also joining the staff for 2014 as Assistant Coach/Defense will be Jason Drury.

"I am very pleased and excited to have Jeff and Matt back with the team.” said Saints General Manager Dave Colbourne. "Having Jeff and Matt return for a second season and adding Jason as a defensive coach makes us even stronger behind the bench. All three have had success as a player and coach and will look to lead the Saints to another National Title this summer."  

Jeff Dowling enters his 2nd season as Head Coach with the Saints. During his playing days, Dowling led the Brock Badgers to three CUFLA Championships. Dowling has won two NLL championships as an assistant coach (2004 with Calgary and 2008 with Buffalo) and was an Assistant GM with Canada’s 2007 World Championship Team. Dowling also serves as Head Coach of the National Indoor team from Ireland that will compete at the World Championships in 2015. He is also the Head Coach/GM with the Canadian Lacrosse League Niagara Lock Monsters.

Matt Attwood enters his 2nd season running the Saints offense. Another Brock Lacrosse alumnus, Attwood is a native of St.Catharines and is the head coach of the Spartan JR. B squad. Attwood has also run the offence with the Canadian Lacrosse League Niagara Lock Monsters the past two seasons.  In 2013, the Lock Monsters were the most explosive team in CLAX.

Jason Drury enters his first season with the Saints as their new Assistant Coach/Defense. After a long playing career, Drury has gone on to coach at every level from minor through pro. He was coach of the Niagara Hawks of the Can-Am League for four seasons from 2007-10 and helped lead the team to their first and only Presidents Cup appearance. He worked as an assistant coach with the National Lacrosse League Buffalo Bandits in 2008 and 2009. For six seasons (1996-2001) Drury coached field lacrosse at Niagara Wheatfield High School and was coach at Niagara County Community College in 2009. In 2012 he was an assistant coach with NOTL Paper Weight.

Highlights of Drury's career include capturing the Jr. B Founders Cup as a player with the St.Catharines Spartans in 1996. As a coach, he won the 2008 NLL Championship with the Buffalo Bandits as an Assistant Coach. In 2009 at the helm, Drury led the Niagara Hawks to the Can Am Championship title and took 4th at the President's Cup.

The Saints start the 2014 season on the road May 3rd versus Sarnia and their Home Opener is Friday May 9th versus Oakville at 8:00pm. Check back soon for single game and season ticket information.
