OAKVILLE, Ont. - The two-time defending OLA Senior B Champion St. Catharines Saints opened the 2013 season with an 11-7 victory over the Oakville Titans at Glen Abbey Arena Saturday night.
The Saints opened the game with a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes and led 5-1 early in the second period. Oakville would answer with four of the next five goals to close out the period trailing 6-5 after 40 minutes.
St. Catharines led 7-6 with 14 minutes remaining in the third period, before adding four straight goals on route to the 11-7 victory.
Rookie Chris Attwood led the Saints with two goals and two assists for a four-point night in his Senior B debut. Dylan Llord contributed with two goals and one assist while Jordie Daradick (1G, 2A) and Bryan Neufeld (3A) also added three points each. Mark Debrone, Corey Fowler and Steve Priolo all chipped in with one goal and one assist. Rounding out the Saints scoring were Colin Boucher (1G), Jay Thorimbert (1G) and Tim O'Brien (1G).
Leading Oakville was Ken Coulson who recorded one goal and three assists. Simon DeSousa (2G, 1A) and Mack Abbott (1G, 2A) both added three points each. Rounding out the Titans scoring was Cam Monroe (1G, 1A), Sean Gillies (1G) and Kevin Harper (1G).
In goal, St. Catharines Grant Crawley recorded 34 saves for the victory. Oakville's Jay Preece suffered the loss.
The Saints 2013 home opener "SHELL OUT for a SELL OUT"is this upcoming Friday, May 3rd at 8:00pm when they host the Six Nations Rivermen at the Bill Burgoyne Arena. If the Saints sellout the home opener one lucky fan will go home with $1000 prize.
