Strong third period leads Saints past Brooklin 10-7

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints improved to 3-0 on the season as they defeated the Brooklin Merchants by the score of 10-7 Sunday afternoon at Bill Burgoyne Arena.

The Saints got out the gates slow trailing 2-1 after one period and 4-3 after two periods.

In the third period, the Saints offense came alive answering with seven goals on 19 shots, including three straight to close out the game.

Leading the Saints offense was rookie Chris Attwood who registered two goals and four assists for a six-point performance. Andrew Potter contributed with two goals and three assists for five points. Corey Fowler (2G, 1A) and Mark Debrone (1G, 2A) both added three points each while Dylan Llord chipped in with one goal and one helper. Jordie Daradick and Chris Janese added one goal each to round out the Saints scoring.

Brooklin were led by Brad Levick (3G, 2A) and Brock Levick (3G, 1A). Kirk Gatten closed out the Merchants scoring with a single marker.

In goal, Saints starter Scotty Komer recorded 39 saves for his second straight victory. Brooklin's John Chesebrough collected 37 saves in the loss.

St. Catharines is now on the road for two games when they take on the Six Nations Rivermen May 11th and Owen Sound NorthStars May 18th. The Saints next home action is Friday, May 24th at 8:00pm versus the Oakville Titans at Bill Burgoyne Arena.
