Saints sweep Brooklin to advance to OLA Sr. B Finals

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Saints advanced to the OLA Sr. B Championship series Friday night as they swept the best 3-out-of-5 series against the Brooklin Merchants winning Game 3 by the score of 10-5 at Bill Burgoyne Arena.

The Saints opened the game with two goals in the first 10 minutes but it was Brooklin answering with two of their own as the score was tied 2-2 after one period.

In the second period, the two teams shared goals early on as the game remained tied 4-4 with 14:26 left in the period. St. Catharines offense then answered with four of the next five goals beating Merchants starter Andrew Ball four times in transition to take an 8-5 lead after 40 minutes.

In the final frame, the Saints added two more to secure the victory. Brooklin continued to pepper Saints starter Jake Henhawk, but he turned aside all 10 shots he faced finishing the night with 38 saves for the victory. In three playoff contests, Henhawk allowed just five goals per game.

Leading the Saints offense was Blue Hill who added the natural hat trick while chipping in with one assist. Rookie Chris Attwood also had a four-point night adding one goal and three helpers. Corey Fowler (2G), Brad Favero (1G, 1A), Chris Janese (1G, 1A), Mike Attwood (1G, 1A) and Steve Priolo (2A) all contributed with two points each. Rounding out the scoring was Jason Henhawk who added a single marker.

Scott Defrancesco led Brooklin with a four-point performance adding one goal and three assists. Brock Levick and Coady Adamson both added one goal and two assists while Brock Levick chipped in with two goals to close out the scoring.

The Saints will now take on the Six Nations Rivermen in the OLA Sr. B Championship Series. Full series schedule to be announced shortly.
