Potter leads Saints past Six Nations in Game One of OLA Sr. B Finals

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The two-time defending OLA Sr. B Champion St. Catharines Saints opened the best 3-out-of-5 OLA Sr. B Finals with a 12-7 victory over the Six Nations Rivermen at Bill Burgoyne Arena Saturday night.

St. Catharines led 4-1 after one period and extended their lead to 7-2 five minutes into the second period. Six Nations would cut the lead to four at the end of 40 minutes trailing 9-5.

Two minutes into the third, the Rivermen cut it to three, 9-6, before the Saints answered with three of the final four goals on route to the five-goal victory.

Leading the Saints offense was Andrew Potter who led all scorers with seven points adding six goals and one helper. Dylan Llord added two goals and three assists for a five-point night. Corey Fowler (1G, 3A) and Brad Favero (1G, 2A) contributed with four and three points respectively. Mark Debrone (1G, 1A), Jason Henhawk (1G, 1A), Jon Burkholder (2A), Mike Attwood (2A) and Chris Attwood (2A) rounded out the scoring with two points each.

Brock Boyle added the natural hat trick for Six Nations. Wayne Vanevery added one goal and three assists while Cody Jacobs (1G, 1A), Jeremy Johns (1G) and Torrey Vanevery (1G) rounded out the Rivermen scoring.

Saints starter Jake Henhawk recorded the victory while Six Nations Angus Goodleaf suffered the loss.

Game Two is scheduled for Sunday Aug 4th at 3pm at Gaylord Powless Arena.
