Saints win opener 15-6 over Calgary at President's Cup

The St. Catharines Saints Sr. B's opened the 2013 President's Cup with a 15-6 victory over the Calgary Mountaineers Monday.

After 20 minutes the score was tied 3-3. In the second period, St. Catharines scored three straight goals in the opening six minutes and led by two 8-6 after 40 minutes.

In the final period, the Saints offense would come alive answering with seven straight goals and defensively kept Calgary scoreless on route to the nine goal victory.

Leading the Saints offense was 2013 OLA Rookie of the Year Chris Attwood and veteran Dylan Llord who both recorded seven points each. Attwood added four goals and three assists while Llord registered two goals and five helpers.

Andrew Potter added two goals and three assists while Captain Brad Favero contributed with three goal and one assist. Rounding out the Saints scoring was Corey Fowler (1G, 2A), Jason Mazachowski (1G, 1A), Jake McCready (1G) and Chris Janese (1G).

Calgary had six different goal scorers and were led by Matt Quinton (1G, 3A) and Tyler Melnyk (1G, 3A).

In goal, Scotty Komer registered 32 saves for the victory. Mountaineers starter A. Houghton suffered the loss adding 41 saves.

The Saints take on the Onondaga Redhawks Tuesday afternoon at 2pm.
