Strong third period leads Saints past Sarnia 18-13
SARNIA, Ont. - The St. Catharines Sr. B Saints opened the 2014 OLA Sr. B season with an 18-13 come from behind victory over the Sarnia Beavers Saturday night at Clearwater Arena in their season opener.
Sarnia jumped out an early 4-1 lead six minutes into the first period and led 8-6 at the end of 20 minutes.
The Beavers would go up 10-6 early in the second with back-to-back goals just 20 seconds apart from Kyle ODonnell and Jeff Sauve.
St. Catharines would answer back with five of the next six goals as the teams were tied 11-11 after two periods.
In the third period, the Saints would add six straight goals to take a 17-11 lead, led by the duo of Corey Fowler and Chris Attwood. The Beavers would continue to push on offense adding two more from Colin McDowall and Chris Davey, cutting the lead to four, 17-13, with two minutes remaining. Saints forward Andy Tober added an empty netter to secure the victory.
For the Saints, Fowler led all players with a nine-point performance registering three goals and six helpers. Attwood added a goal and seven assists while Jason Henhawk (3G, 3A) and Dylan Llord (6A) chipped in with six points each. Rounding out the St. Catharines leaders were Geoff McNulty (3G, 1A), Dylan Goddard (3G), Brad Favero (1G, 1A), Zac Reid (1G, 1A) and Chris Janese (1G, 1A).
Leading Sarnia was McDowall who recorded five goals and one assist. Davey (2G, 3A) and Kyle Childerhose (1G, 4A) both contributed with five points each while Michael Fleming added four helpers. Also with multiple point games were ODonnell (2G), Sauve (1G, 1A) and Brad Holbrough (2A).
The Saints return to action Sunday, May 4th at 4pm when they take on the Sarnia Beavers at Clearwater Arena.
