Five goal third leads Saints to 10-7 victory over Brooklin

The St. Catharines Sr. B Saints captured their fourth straight victory as they defeated the Brooklin Merchants by the score of 10-7 Sunday night at Luther Vipond Arena.

Brooklin jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and led 4-2 after one period. In the second period the teams registered two goals each with the Merchants holding onto a 6-4 lead after 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Saints offense came alive answering with four straight goals, including two from Joel Mathews to take a 8-6 lead.  St. Catharines added two more in the final six minutes on route to the three goal road victory.

Corey Fowler had a five-point night adding one goal and four assists. Joel Mathews recorded the natural hat trick and added one assist while Dylan Goddard (2G, 1A) and Jason Henhawk (3A) chipped in with three points each. Rounding out the scoring were Chris Attwood (1G, 1A), Geoff McNulty (1G), TJ Buck (1G) and Brandon Niesink (1G).

For the Merchants, Martin Whittaker (3G, 1A) and Jon Mason (2G, 2A) recorded four points each. Scott Defrancesco (1G, 1A) and Matt Spanger (1G) were the other Brooklin goal scorers.

In goal, Grant Crawley picked up the victory for the Saints while Merchants starter Neil Roberts suffered the loss.
